FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is your key to unlocking federal grants, work-study, and student loans. It’s required each year to qualify for most financial aid, including scholarships and state programs.

FAFSA Information

  • Important Dates

FAFSA Opens: December 1, 2024 (new date- moved from October)

    Priority Filing Deadlines:

    Federal: June 30, 2026

State Deadlines: Vary- some as early as March 1, 2025

College Deadlines: Often earlier than the federal deadline!

    Corrections/Updates Deadline: September 14, 2026

Tip: Funds are first-come, first-served at many schools and states

  • What's New This Year

Shorter form: Fewer questions and simpler income reporting.

New formula: “Expected Family Contribution (EFC)” replaced by the Student Aid Index (SAI).

Parent information rules updated- especially divorced or separated families.

No more sibling discount (household size doesn’t reduce your SAI).

  • Avoid Common Mistakes

    Waiting too long to file.

Using the wrong year’s tax info.

    Forgetting to sign and submit.

Not listing your school codes correctly.

Assuming you “make too much” to qualify- always apply!
