Frequently Asked Questions

Student loan advocacy is a new term for most. Learn more about how we help student loan borrowers with repayment and forgivness strategies through our frequently asked questions.

Do you work with all student loan borrowers or just Public Service Loan Forgiveness?

We work with and advocate for all student loan borrowers.

For borrowers pursuing student loan forgiveness, what is the average forgiveness amount?

The loan forgiveness amounts that NewBeginnings is able to help clients obtain ranges from $15,000 - $460,000. On average borrowers with NewBeginnings as their advocate receive $45,000 - $50,000 in forgiveness

Can you help parents plan for student loan borrowing?

Absolutely, NewBeginnings can help parents plan for student loan borrowing.  With the inception of the One Big Beautiful Bill, many parents are blindsided by the latest student loan “caps” for both student and parent.  We help parents walk through their options, both private and federal, so that they can make the most informed decision for them and their student.

What do I need to bring to my Initial Strategic Call?

You only need to bring your story, your concerns, and your goals to your initial strategic student loan call.

After having my initial strategic call, how long does it typically take to receive my individualized plan?

NewBeginnings initial strategic call for your student loans is risk-free. You can decide to move forward with the Individualized Student Loan Assessment (ISLA), during that call or at your readiness. ISLAs are our top priority and borrowers can receive them within 2-3 business days.

What is the cost of the Individualized Student Loan Assessment (ISLA)?

The cost of the Individualized Student Loan Assessment is $429.  This can be paid up front or broken into two payments.

Do most clients receive some student loan forgiveness?

All student loan borrowers qualify for forgiveness whether that be Income Driven Repayment Forgiveness, Teacher Loan Forgiveness or Public Service Loan Forgiveness.  It all depends on their individualized strategic plan if any of those loan

forgiveness opportunities are the best choice for that borrower.

Do you handle private student loans or just federal student loans?

At NewBeginnings, we can handle private and federal student loans.

What are other options for my student loan monthly payment if I cannot afford what my servicer is asking for?

If you cannot afford the monthly payment that your student loan servicer is asking for, the first option is to always look into Income Driven Repayment Plans but there are fixed repayment plans that may be a better option, depending on the borrower and their specific goals.

If I can do this for free by calling my servicer, what makes you different as a student loan advocate?

As a student loan advocate, we are different that calling the free offering of your loan servicer. NewBeginnings is invested in your story, your goals, your career, your family.  We have walked through marriages, home ownership, career advancements, family growth, retirement with our clients.  Our clients, and their stories, drive our advocacy work.  You don’t receive invested time and genuine concern from a call center.

We are committed to staying on top of the legislation changes and providing the most up-to-date information, changes and opportunities to every client.  In order to provide the individualized attention that is the foundation of NewBeginnings, it is critical that we remain educated in order to provide the expertise borrowers and clients deserve.

Can I stay in the SAVE plan forever if I am an existing student loan borrower?

The SAVE plan has officially been eliminated as of December 2025.  Borrowers who are still in the SAVE are indefinitely in an Administrative Forbearance with an unknown end date.  All borrowers will eventually need to choose a different repayment plan or the Department of Education and your servicer will choose for you.

If the SAVE plan is eliminated, what repayment plan choices do I have?

If the SAVE plan is eliminated, there are currently three other Income Driven Repayment Plans and three Fixed Repayment Plans for existing borrowers.  There are upcoming deadlines, due to the One Big Beautiful Bill, that changes Income Driven Repayment Plan and Fixed Repayment Plans down to only two of each.

Do I have to re-certify my income driven repayment plan every year?

Student loan borrowers are required to re-certify their income driven repayment plan every year or they will be moved to a Standard (fixed) repayment plan.

How often should I submit my employment verification form for Public Service Loan Forgiveness?

There is a misnomer that those who qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness can submit their employment verification form once their ten years of service is completed.  Borrowers should be consistently submitting their employment verification form in order to ensure employer completion, accurate qualifying payment counts, and have a clear idea of time remaining.

I think my loans are heading towards default, but I am really not sure?  Can you help me find out and if they are, what are my options?

Through our Individualized Student Loan Assessment, we can determine whether your student loans are in default or good standing and provide the two options for default resolution, Direct Consolidation or Loan Rehabilitation.  Both options come with their advantages and disadvantages and we walk through those choices with you.
